We are the Seattle Surrealist club !
All participating artists here are seasoned artists of the Surrealist genre and subgenres and residents of Seattle, Washington, USA.
We found a need to create this club because of our observation of the multitude of "dark arts" that come out of this serenely dark and damp Pacific Northwest city. Groundbreaking and astonishing imaginary worlds in paint, photography, writing and music ferment and come to life in basements, cabins, cafes, studios, retreats, bomb shelters, abandoned naval zones and leaking houseboats all along this Western black coast.
Where does "it" come from, and why Seattle? There are many theories, the most circulated being that Seattle sits on a ley line, not just on the earthquaking ring of fire between several live volcanoes, but a deeper ley line connecting this city to other deep zones throughout the world. Such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Mayan temples, Easter Island and Chartes Cathedral, to name a few. Seattle is the dark sister, the shadow land, where shadow work is performed and most of the time unconsciously or "subconsciously" (a favorite Surrealist term) lived out in the arts.
Seattle is Surreal, and those who dare to live here and explore on an artistic level are quietly surprised - and quietly - because Seattle is a passive-aggressive city (so they say). Many people run from this place, or self-destruct, because it's so powerful. You will discover, fellow artists, that Surreal is what is real, and there is no turning back.
